Getting to Know Perth

Once you’ve touched down in the 'City of Light’, pick up your Hertz rental car from our Perth Airport or Perth Downtown branch to begin your journey. With a vibrant blend of natural landscapes, city views and a relaxed atmosphere, your home away from home for the week awaits in Perth. Set off on an adventure to discover Western Australia through the flavours of the Swan Valley, Perth's premier wine region, just 30 minutes out of the CBD. Known for its boutique wineries and gourmet food, the Swan Valley is home to over 30 vineyards, specialising in Verdelho and Chenin Blanc varieties. Book a guided wine tour or create your own itinerary, visiting wineries, restaurants, and historic sites along the way. Ugly Duckling Wines is a vineyard and cellar door, overlooking rolling hills and the shimmering Swan River. Settle in here for a tasting experience of white, red, dry, and sweet wines and bask in the glorious ambience as you nibble on gourmet cheeses. For a safe journey, always remember to appoint a designated driver when indulging in alcohol on your road trip. After a decadent first day exploring the Swan Valley, return to Perth in the evening and dine at one of the city's finest restaurants.

Rottnest Island Relaxation

After driving to Fremantle in the morning, about 25 minutes south of Perth, leave your rental car on the mainland for the day and escape with a day trip to Rottnest Island. Spend the day exploring the natural beauty of the protected island, beginning with an idyllic 25-minute ferry ride across the Indian Ocean. You can get around the island on foot, by renting a bicycle or you can book a private transfer to accommodate you throughout the day. Alongside picturesque views and stunning scenery, Rottnest is also known for its curious creatures that inhabit the island. Quokkas are native to Wadjemup and are famed for their friendly personalities and can often be seen smiling for a selfie. As they are wild animals, observe them from afar, wait nearby and let them come to you. Discover landmarks on Rottnest like the Bickley Battery naval gun emplacement and the 38-metre tall Wadjemup Lighthouse to learn more about the area’s history and wander the Island at your own pace on a walking trail. When it’s time to dine, head to HAVAS for a tapas-style meal— ideal for sharing with a large group—or visit Lontara Restaurant to discover the flavours of Southeast Asia before making your way back to Fremantle.
